
Freefilmers is a cinemovement and NGO from Mariupol, Ukraine
Our goals:
- resistance to colonial policies, imperialism, capitalism and patriarchy
- collaborative interaction and support for vulnerable and marginalized communities
- making films that are as alert and sensitive to reality as possible, with a main focus on human life and the struggle for equality and freedom
- promoting independent filmmaking and grassroots initiatives in political arts

Current Projects
- Volunteer help to victims of Russia’s war against Ukraine and to Ukrainian soldiers.
- Holding solidarity screenings. Feel free to contact Freefilmers if you want to hold a screening of our films in your community.
- The Mariupol Memory Park multimedia archive: in progress.
- A film by Yulia Appen about the lives of Roma women displaced in Zaporizhzhia during Russia’s war against Ukraine: in progress.
- A film by Sashko Protyah, ‘Songs about War’: in progress.
- Working on the content for ‘Solidarity Collectives’ YouTube channel.
- Assisting in research and production of Oksana Kazmina’s “Underwater”.
- Collaboration with the artist Ulyana Bychenkova on the ‘Korchuvatka/Korchuvatytsia’ typeface (from Korchuvate, Kyiv’s bumfuck nowhere). The typeface will be made available to the public.
- Research of Oksana Kazmina’s video archives (2014-2024) and work on her series of lecture-walks titled ‘Contemporary History of Ukraine’.
We are open to cooperating with ideologically similar initiatives.
